The chapter opens with a description of the attack on the fortress. The narrator informs us that the enemy is using ice to trap the fortress, and that the only way to stop them is to destroy the giant reactor under the north face of the fortress that they've been using. They're done with the attack, and they're ready to go back to the mainland. They have a drink, and the narrator tells us that he respects them both. He also says that he doesn't care if the girl he first met when she was 16 is still in love with him.
