In this chapter, we learn that Mina is now 15 years old and wishes to be a part of the U.K. Secret Service. She tells us that she would like to join the Secret Service because she wants to be part of what she thinks will be a happy ending to the story. She says that she wishes she were younger because she thinks she would have been able to learn more from the man who taught her so much about the world. Mina thinks that he is stupid and says that if he had learned anything from him, they would have all been toast. She is grateful to him and to the boy, but she feels that they were all useless this time. She wonders if he is "disap-pointed" in her. She thinks he is too stiff for desk work. Mina says that he did a good job talking to her and that she is grateful for him and the boy. She wishes that she could have learned more from him. She feels that he was "stupid" a few times and that he made her feel annoyed. She asks if he was pointing at her. He replies that he wasn't. Mina wonders if she was being stupid a few more times. She admits that she was, but that she doesn't know how to yell at him because she is so "wiped up" from all the talk. Mina asks if she is being stupid too many times, and he says he is. Mina is grateful that he didn't yell at her too much. She thanks him for all his talk and says she wishes they could have had a toast with him. He says that they should have gone home and washed up, but Mina says they still have to check on Mina to make sure that she isn't a spy. She also says she is glad that she has a new friend, and that it's nice to have someone to talk
