In this short scene, the audience is introduced to a new character, the "whoa" . He is a young man who has just returned from a battle in which he was defeated by the "shundo" , a form of fighting in which the opponent fights alone. The young man asks the audience to imagine what it would be like to be alone in the real world. He tells the audience that it is a cruel world in which "the rich take what the poor want and burn what they have left behind. The audience is shocked at the young man's lack of concern for the poor and for the world around him.
