About This Chapter
The narrator introduces two new students, Tokisaka and Hiroyuki. Hiroyuki tells the narrator that he has just returned from an undercover mission in which he was unable to find the killer. The two students discuss the nature of the school, and the fact that the stairway to the top of the building is reserved for the "first rate" students. The narrator tells Hiroyuki that he should leave before this becomes a pointless quarrel. The students then discuss the duel that Hiroyuki is about to participate in.
