About This Chapter
In this chapter, we are introduced to a young man who works at a bamboo pole shop. The young man tells the old man that he has done a good deed for the town. The old man does not recognize the young man's thanks and stares at him without saying a word of thanks. He says that he is heading toward "oh no" and wonders why he has to work so hard to make the butter. He explains that it takes him so much time to make butter and that he uses unsalted butter from Hokkaido, a town in the northeast of Japan, because he has just had a baby and has to pay 3,000 yen for a bottle of beer. He wonders why there is no such thing as "sense of entitlement" in the world. He compares this to the idea of "ingratitude" and "entitledness" and says that in the real world, there is "no shortage" of these sentiments. He also says that there is a special plan in the works that will give away free beer to all customers. He adds that the plan will be the first of its kind in Japan and that it will be aired in the country before anywhere else.
