About This Chapter
In this chapter, we learn that the teacher still hasn't shown up for class, and that he's been playing hooky with the students. The narrator tells us that he found the teacher's notes on his desk. He's sure the teacher is a "problem teacher" because he doesn't seem to be paying attention to what the students are saying in class. He also says that the girl in the class has a middle name, which means she's not an illegal immigrant, but rather a "classless" person who has no class in Japan. He says that if everything is proper in Japan, then there's nothing wrong with being a classless person. He adds that everyone in the country is nice to him, even though it seems obvious that they don't speak to each other. He then goes on to say that the kindnesses of the people in Japan are so great that he wants to "strip off" his clothes.
