In this chapter, we learn that the protagonist, Alek, is a "techno-stress" , a term used to describe the effects of technology on people's lives. He complains that his air-conditioner is broken, his electric bike is out of service, and his cell phone reception is poor. He also complains about the fact that he has to wait for an elevator to get to the top of a tall building, and that women spend more time putting on makeup than men do because of the high-definition television. Alek also complains that he and his fiancee have been together for five years, and their parents keep asking if they can be continued on in the future. He tells his fiancee that he will submit a thesis on how to use the web to find a job, and he urges her to visit his house, where he has a bright future.
