The chapter opens with a discussion of the day's events. The narrator informs us that there are no important announcements for the day, but that tomorrow will be a "clean up day" and that everyone should bring their gym clothes. He tells us that he once saw his father and his wife watching a movie together and that he was shocked to learn that every half-an-hour, a married couple would get divorced. He says that he is not wearing his gym clothes because they are "the hidden blade of conversa" . He also says that his four siblings do not say anything like this, and that their mood has gotten "rather gloomy" lately. He asks if it is their fault that they have started the conversation, and they all agree that it is not their fault for starting it. He then asks if they are just going to "act like" it is nothing. They say that they are going to do whatever their sponsors tell them to do. They also say that the company has moved up a grade in the past few weeks and that they must do whatever they are told to do by their sponsors. They then say that their personal information was accidentally released by the company and that this is why they have learned that they should contact the theater for a screening. They conclude by saying that their real age is 26, and that one of their fillings fell the day before. They tell him that he should try eating the opposite of what he has been eating, and he agrees.
