The narrator begins this chapter by saying that he has lost faith in the assumption-based society in which he lives. He tells the audience that he is tired of the neighborhood's reliance on assumptions. He says that he would never update the operating system of a school because it would be based on the assumptions that the initial versions would be full of mistakes. He also says that the Prime Minister of Japan is under the assumption, that the United States will always protect him. The narrator then goes on to say that the enemy character in the story is an enemy character who threatens to kill the sensei because he assumes that they will become friends. The sensei and the enemy are meant to be friends.
