In this chapter, we learn that many of the gifts that people give to us are useless. For example, the gift of a calendar is useless because people give it away without saying a single thank you. Instead, they give it to you as a gift and then throw it away. This is not a good idea, says Sensei, because people don't realize how useful they are until they receive a gift. He suggests that instead of giving people gifts that they won't use, he should become a Santa Claus and give away gifts people will not use. This way, he says, people will realize how valuable they are when they receive gifts.
