In this chapter, the young narrator tries to convince the reader that the marriage between Cai Ling and her grandfather is a good one. Cai Ling's aunt lives a very good life, and Cai Ling wants to share the property with her grandfather. The young narrator says that as long as Cai Ling is good to her grandfather, he will give her all of the shares. He also says that he has signed a contract to work as a dubbing editor for a long time, and that he hopes Cai Ling will return to him soon. He tells Cai Ling that he misses her, but that Cai Ling has changed a lot since he last saw her. He has gone on business trips recently, and even Cai Ling himself is busy with his own business. He asks Cai Ling if she has made up her mind to return to school, and she says that she would like to do so. She tells him that she has something to ask her for, but she doesn't want Cai Ling to know about it. She says that if Cai Ling does not come out of the school in five minutes, she will ask someone to find him.
