In this chapter, we learn that Mr. Lockwood has been trying to kill Mingke ever since she was a child. He has tried to kill her many times, but she has always been loyal to her father. Now that she is old enough to be his daughter, he wants her back. He wants her to come back to him and have her "tested" again. He tells us that he has a recording of her, and he has decided to share it with Mingke so that he can take her back and "master his hand." He tells Mingke that he will give her anything she wants as long as she comes back safe. He says that he is afraid of what Mingke will do to him if he tries to escape, but he promises to give her whatever she wants. He asks if he can tie him up, but Mingke says he can't, because the windows are so locked that it is impossible for him to get out. Mingke asks if the man who watched over him all night was tired, and Mingke replies that he must have been tired. He hopes that no one will come to save him, because he looks like the "for the first time" .
