The next morning, Huck finds himself in the middle of a conversation with Lanzhou, who is laughing at him. Huck tells Lanzhou that he will have to stay up all night in the cold in order to complete his mission. He tells him that he has been in the field without moving for three days without food or water, and that his legs are numb. Huck wonders how Lanzhou got the money for his business, and wonders why he had to choose a difficult path for his son. When Huck asks where he got the check, Lanzhou replies that he didn't have to do so, because the man he paid to kill the girl got hit by an oncoming van, so he saved the check for himself. Huck asks if he is afraid of the girl's revenge, but he is not afraid of Lanzhou.
