The narrator tells the audience that he is going to go downstairs to congratulate Cai on his engagement. He asks Cai if he means it, and if so, he thanks him. He then asks Cai why he is staying with Cai, and Cai tells him that he does not need to stay with a man who does not like him for money. The narrator then tells Cai that she is growing more confident while he lies awake every night, and that Cai told him to do it. Cai asks if she knows about the fuss that has been made about her in the past, and the narrator tells him to keep his voice down. He also tells Cai about the pictures that were posted of her in bed with a number of men. Cai says that he knows who the girl is, and he tells her that Cai is flirting with her. Cai tells the narrator that Cai has invited many people to the party, and she is surprised to see that he has invited so many people. He tells her to sit down, because he feels nervous. Cai then tells him about the wedding ring he is wearing, and asks him to imagine how he would react if Cai proposed to her. He says that she would dance with excitement, throw herself into his arms, cry, and ask Cai to sign a prenuptial agreement with her first.
