In this chapter, Mingke is described as being "colder than most people" and "weaker than hutu" . She is the first girl on the island to be brought without training, and Mingke seems to be special to her master. Mingke asks the men to get a chair in the room so that she can talk to Mingke alone. She says that she admires Mingke so much that she would like to be nice to him. She wonders whether Mingke can understand that Mingke treats her as a pet, and she wonders if Mingke will understand this. She asks if the training of her people is good, and he says that they are good. He says that he does not believe her, and that she is contradicting him for the first time. He watches the fight carefully and wonders if he is wrong. He wonders if the fight did not go Mingke's way, and if she is the captain of the team. He thinks that all of the people on the Island are the best. He looks at Mingke carefully, and wonders whether she is also a master. He asks if she will respond to his question, and when she does not, he asks her to run away and ask for help.
