In this chapter, the narrator continues the story of his grandfather's life. He begins by telling his grandfather that he is the grandson of a world-renowned designer, and that wherever he goes, he will be known as "the grandson of the World's Greatest Designer" . He tells his grandfather to stop using the pronoun "boku" because it reminds him of his own adulterous past. He also tells him to stop talking about his "mumbo jumbo" to an adult, because he does not have time to "fool around" with his grandfather. The narrator then goes on to say that he will beat his grandfather as a designer one more time. He says that he needs one more design, and he will work on it more. He then tells his grandson that if he wants financial support, he should tell him what he wants. If he wants it, he can give it to him, but he cannot do that because he is a grand son. He adds that if his grandson wants to go independent, then he should acknowledge his skills and not say what he really thinks. He warns him not to drink too much, though, because if he drinks too much he will end up saying the wrong thing. He asks if there is anything he can do for his grandson, and the narrator replies that he has not done his homework. He wants to buy some more of the king-spun thread, but cant afford to buy enough red rayon fabric. He decides to go work on other outfits, so he can use the extra thread to adjust the shirt's shoulders shape.
