In this chapter, the narrator explains how she came up with the idea of making an outfit out of patch material. She tells us that her goal is to beat everyone with 5,000 yen, but that she can't make an outfit "that suits sara" with materials she doesn't have. She asks her friend, chiyuki san, to lend her a pair of shoes so she can try on some of sara's clothes, but chiyuki says that he's not sure if he should watch some of her variety shows before he does so. The narrator explains that sara is a "popular celebrity" with a "spontaneous and somewhat air-headed personality" . She often says weird things and laughs on the show, but when she's portrayed as "air-headed" in the variety shows, she says, she was "sur prised" by it. She's going to try to do the same thing for sara.
