About This Chapter
The next morning, the men discuss the situation on the island and decide that they need allies to protect the island from further attack. They ask Panagiola if he would like to join them, and he agrees to do so if they just stay and wait for the opportune moment. He tells them that he has dedicated his life to freedom, and that as long as the island is free, that is good enough for him. He says that he feels the eyes of his fellow survey corpsmen on him, and wonders if they would have been so selfish if they had not been willing to kill one another in order to save the island. He then says that if they let go of the island, it would be heaven for the island devils, and they would get the world they want. He asks if they can kill eren until they have a chance to talk to him. If they kill him, he says, they are turning him into an enemy, and if they do not, they will not be able to protect their homeland. He adds that he wants to know why they should help a marlyan bastard, like him, when they have the right to kill him. Panaggiola tells him that he overheard a conversation between Bertolt and marco in which they were discussing something that they could not be allowed to talk about. He slammed marco against a roof, and then grabbed his equipment and held him there while he tried to get away. A titan came up and ate marco, and the two men have been fighting ever since
