About This Chapter
In this short scene, we learn that the queen is running an orphanage in Shiganshina instead of ruling over the army. The narrator tells us that she's been wearing the throne for two months, but that she seems to be more interested in running the orphanage than in ruling over her army. She's also been taking care of the orphans and people in need in the area. She tells the narrator that the sun is about to set, so they should hurry back to the army to finish the hardening of the walls. She also tells him that they're going to be able to kill the new enemies without having to eat them. She says that they should just keep using the weapons they've already been using to destroy the old enemies and keep using them to kill new ones. The captain tells the crew that the day they take back the wall Maria will be in sight within a month. He also tells them that the new weapons will be ready to go in the month, so the only thing they need to do now is to use them for their intended purpose. He tells the men that he's going to have to make the decision on the ground, not in the dark. He says that if they don't make the right decision, they'll have to face the consequences. He asks the men if they were all part of the reason why they decided to join the army in the first place. They all look at each other, and the captain says that he doesn't remember anything about the day his dad escaped from the wall. He then asks the captain if he remembers the man who met his dad in the cave. He's sure that man is the one who met him.
