About This Chapter
In this short scene, the Volscians discuss the possibility that the wine that they have been drinking has been contaminated with the spinal fluid of Aleksey. Aleksey replies that he does not have proof of this, but that he has been told to serve the wine to the military, starting with the highest rank. He does not believe that Aleksey has been poisoned, but he does believe that the fluid has been tainted with Aleksey's se, which is believed to be the cause of many of the symptoms Aleksey complains of. Alek says that no one would believe Aleksey would have been poisoned if he had not been poisoned by Aleksey, but Alek replies that no soldier would have believed Aleksey had been poisoned. Alek asks if he killed one of his comrades, but Falco replies that Aleksy was not only needed to kill him, but also that he reminded him of a certain "some one" whom he would like to kill. Alek tells Falco that he would rather not tell him that he brought his friends with him. He says that he knew that the day would come when he would have to deal with the Eldians, and that he knows that he will be tied to a tree if he tells anyone about it. He adds that he is the one who wants to talk to Alek, and he has the right to do so out of his own free will. He tells Alek that the clan has been designed to protect the king of Eldia, and it was he who awakened Aleksey and allowed him to become strong. He explains that once a man awakens, he often suffers from sudden head injuries, and this is why he is able to be strong.
