In this chapter, we learn that the survey corps commander was attacked by two men two days ago, and that the perpetrator escaped with him. The survey corps is under the control of the royal government, and the next commander will be hanged if the enemy attacks them. The captain asks the captain if he thinks the military police will arrest the attackers, but the captain says that he doesn't think they will. Two days later, the district where the attack took place is still at large, and some of the soldiers still refuse to obey the summons.
