This chapter opens with a soliloquy by Enobarbus, in which he tells the reader that he has found a way to get out of the hole in Maria's wall. He tells us that the wall was made in such a way that the heat and rocks would not be able to escape, and that it is now possible for the wall to seal the gap between the two sides of the wall, thus allowing them to escape. He also says that the plan to turn the rod into the progenitor of the human race has been a failure for many years, and Enogarbus points out that there is no way to undo the brainwashing done by the Reiss family. He says that they have succeeded in rescuing the people of historia and historias, but that they are not for the sake of humanity's survival. He adds that the target of the titan is an "abnormal" one, so it will not be attracted to a small village. He then says that he is not hungry for food, and wonders if something is wrong with him.
