The next morning, Darnay wakes up in the middle of the night to find himself surrounded by soldiers. He's not sure what's going on, but he's pretty sure it's because Darnay has been sleeping. He wakes up to the sound of a bullet whizzing past his head. Darnay is pretty sure that the bullet was fired by the marleyans, who are trying to kill him. He doesn't understand why they're killing him and his friends, and he wants to kill them all. He tells Darnay to tell his family and friends what happened. He also tells them that they've risked their lives to get him back every time he was captured.
