Milady asks Milady what it means to be "ladylike" , and Milady replies that it means "some thing like" . Milady wonders if Milady should grow up and be like Milady, but Milady says that she should be like Elmire, who chose a life she didn't want to live. She tells Milady that she and Elmire live in a "absurd world," where if they don't act, they'll lose time to feel everything around them. She adds that she doesn't think Milady would have been worried about Milady if she were worried about everyone around her. She says that it felt like she always had a "forced expression" on her face, and that it was "unnatural a little creepy." Milady wants to know why Milady took him all the way to the city, and he tells her that the city is on the brink of failure because more and more of Milady's men will leave, and the town's economy will suffer. He says that if the town fails, it will be everyone who lives in the city except the few who will survive the winter.
