About This Chapter
The next morning, the three of them discuss how they're going to get out of the fighting. They're planning who to abandon, and what to do if they can't make it. They don't know how to react to the enemy's attack, so they've got to figure out a way to get away. The third guy in the fourth column is supposed to be in the area where the flares are, but he's not sure if they'll be able to make it there. He's going to have to wait for three more minutes before he can figure out what's up. He wants to know what happened to him, and if he was glad he went out of his way to check on the flares. The guy says he was out on his own, and that's fine, because he had a horse with him. He also says that the wall is even worse than he'd imagined, and the food is worse. He wonders if the commanders' troops have seen the flares, and he wonders why they haven't been able to decide whether or not to continue the mission. He asks if the commander hasn't had a chance to look at the flares and he says yes. The right flank of the enemy has been devastated, and now the troops are going to kill them all bit by bit. The leader of the third guy's squad is confused, because the right flank has been overrun. He says he has to alert the other troops, but the leader won't give him an answer. He
