Azuma Bito, one of the island's most powerful women, is on her way to visit with her husband, who is the last surviving member of the family that ruled the island before the Mingus conquered it in 1607. The two men discuss the family crest, which is a symbol of royal blood, and the fact that the heir to the throne left a child on the island after his father's death. The men agree that they are the descendants of the nation's last lord, and they ask each other to wait for a moment before asking about the crest. They both agree that it would be better if they waited until the time was right to ask about it, since they are both so powerful in the eyes of the people. They also agree that the mark on the man's wrist is a sign that he is a member of a royal family, and that it will always be there waiting for him. They discuss the arrangements they have made with Zeke Yeager, and how they will be able to leave the island whenever they want. They agree to take care of an eldian who has been killed by Mingus.
