In this chapter, Levi tries to convince himself that he's doing the right thing by returning to the human race. He tells himself that it's his duty to prove that he isn't the enemy, and he swears that he will do so in the future. He's just got to see what's going on with the rest of the group. They've been through hell before, he says, and they know how to deal with it. They don't have any regrets, he tells himself, because they've lived through hell many times before and they're still learning how to live the way they want to live. He says that he needs to act quickly and make sure that he doesn't get into a situation where he'll have to make a tough decision in the worst-case scenario. He also says that if he had killed himself, he would've killed the whole group. Levi says that maybe killing himself alone wasn't why he changed, but maybe killing the group was a natural way to do it. He wants to rethink how he turns back to a human, too, but he says that with the group training, he won't be able to do so until the next expedition. He asks himself, "Why did I choose this ? I didn't want to be treated like a creature of being shunned" . He just wants to believe in his comrades.
