The magi sends a message to the village girl, asking her to stay and rest until she's better. She's fine, the magi tells her. The village girl says she doesn't need coffee, but she'll have one if she needs it. She thanks him for taking care of her for three days, and he promises to come back and give her some coffee. He says he'll do it again after he finds out what's going on with the other prisoners. He tells her that he's been having trouble programming the secundum, and that's why he didn't want to do it. He's not the one who messed up the master's plan, he says, because the women are "powerful mind readers" . They're in a different league from the mind readers of ancient times, he tells her, because they're touch people's skin. He wants her to send him to see his sister, who's still alive.
