This chapter opens with a discussion of the crowd that has gathered in front of Nemo's ship. The crowd is made up of all sorts of different types of people, and they're all trying to figure out what's going on with Nemo and his ship. They're not sure what to make of Nemo, who's not really thinking about anything. He's just looking at the crowd and thinking about what he can do to help them. He doesn't seem to have any ideas about how to help the ship, and he's pretty sure that the crowd is just trying to make things difficult for him. He tells them that the ship's crew has come to rescue Nemo, and that he'd like them to come with him and show him the ship they've just seen. He wants to show them the ship that's far away from town, but he can't bring himself to go with them, because the ship is so far away that it'll be impossible for them to get close enough to the ship to help him.
