About This Chapter
The chapter opens with a flashback to the time of the "Magister" and the "Rugged Old Guy" . It's the middle of the night, and the narrator has just returned from a trip to the mahora academy, where he met the headmaster and the other students. The narrator asks the headmaster if he's feeling well. The headmaster tells him that he is, but he doesn't know how to respond to the narrator's questions. When the narrator asks if the headmaster is feeling well, the headmaster replies that he isn't feeling well but that he'll be fine. He's not sure how to react to the question of whether or not the headmaster's health is improving, but the narrator says that it's good that the headmaster has been feeling better because it means the headmaster will be able to talk to the students more easily. He also says that if the students don't like the headmaster, they shouldn't be allowed to come back to the academy, since it would be a waste of time and money for them to go back to their old jobs. The students are all excited to see the headmaster again, but they're not sure what to make of him. They're also confused by the fact that he hasn't changed much since the last time they saw him. The only thing they can think of to say is that he looks like a "raged old guy" and that he has a "fever" and "chocolate" in his eyes. They all agree that the old man is a "magister." The narrator then asks the students to sing a song, and they do so. He asks if they'd like to see him again, and when they do, he gives them a "back rub" , which is basically a rub of the back of the head. The boys are all confused, but when the narrator tells them that they can't see him, they all start to get excited. They want to know what's wrong with the headmaster. He says that
