About This Chapter
This chapter's epigraph is from the opening lines of Act IV, Scene 1 : "Well, um, like a dream, with scenery, you have never seen before . . and hallucinations of someone , you . have never ." This is a reference to the fact that the narrator has never seen anything like this before. The narrator tells the audience that he has been having hallucinations of people he has never met before. He also tells them that there is a disease in the area that causes people to have dreams and hallucinations. This disease is called a "normal cold," and it does not cause long-lasting harm. He says that he is not hiding anything, and that he does not know what his enemy is trying to do. He tells the crowd that he and his companions are going to search for four of the monsters they have not found and three of the return gate. They will also search for a peace festival that will be held the following day. The peace festival will take place in a place called "ariadne," and the narrator says that it will be difficult for them to move about freely during the festival, but he is happy to be able to fight.
