This chapter opens with a flashback to six years earlier, when the hero and his family were in the village of Negi. The flashback reveals that the hero's father, Stan, and his uncle, San, were in charge of the attack on Negi's village, and that they did everything they could to prevent it from happening. The father is furious at his son's actions, and he calls him a "stupid moron" and a "whoosh" . He tells his son not to give in to his cousin's trap, and the two men begin to fight. The men are interrupted by the sound of a "sting-clap" , which means that the people of the village have come out to greet the hero. The two men continue to fight, and when they are interrupted, the men stop fighting. The narrator explains that the attack was ordered by the Senate, which is part of the mahora academy. This is because the Academy is the top organization in the country, and part of it is under the control of the "stupid senate" of the country.
