The chapter ends with a soliloquy by the "magister negi" . He tells his master that he still believes in him, but that he is perfectly fine. He says that if he had to listen to his master's requests, he would take his place. He also says that he has lost interest in the whole thing. He wonders if there might be an "ask for anything" from the slave. He reminds the master that there will always be a bad guy in the world, and that the "jerk tricked" him into believing that he was a prince. The magister says that it took him eighteen years of "vomiting blood" to do what he did, and he wonders if he would have been able to do the same thing now if he could have been the leading man.
