This chapter's epigraph is from a poem by the famous poet, Shmoop. In the poem, he says that he has come to the school to learn how to fight, but that he does not know how to do so because he is not a real person. He says that before he came to school, he had no one to compare himself to. Now, however, he has someone to compare him to, and that person is senshu, the daughter of a famous shrineman. He asks her if she will be able to defeat the champion, and she says that she will. He tells her to stand back, because she is a formidable opponent. She says that if only she and the champion had known about each other's magic, they would have been able to beat each other. He then tells her that he will not be giving her time to stand.
