In this chapter, the Underground Man delivers a series of soliloquys, in which he criticizes his master's decision to fight over the world. The Underground Man says that if he wants everyone to get back to reality, all he needs to do is "ignore us" . If he wants to fulfill his obligation to the girls at school, he has only one choice: ignore them. He tells them that they have a right to a "happy life at school" without being involved in "nonsenseless incidents" in this "continual world" , and he asks them to go out and "have tons of fun" and "enjoy a happy life" at school. He asks her why she's going to "destroy the world," and she says that he can either refuse or get involved in any way he wants.
