In this chapter, we are introduced to a new character, Tetamaki, who has been assigned to the Fifth Company of the Marines. He is not a member of the First Company, but rather a subordinate to the company's lieutenant, Rekka, who is in charge of the Second Company. He asks the other Marines to keep their noses out of his business, and he tells them that he is not an official member of their company. He also tells them not to tell anyone that they are involved in the war, because he does not want them to become "infernals" . He tells them to pray for him and the others, and then he leaves them alone.
