In this chapter, the reader is introduced to some of the characters who have been introduced in the previous chapters. The first person introduced in this chapter is the guy who used to be the fire fighter. He's now a "weak mech" , which is a kind of military term for a machine that can do a lot of different things. The fire fighter is supposed to protect human life, property, and so on. But the guy doesn't seem to understand what the evangelist is trying to accomplish by trying to do that. He thinks that humans are just a small part of the energy of the world, and that if something is insignificant, it should burn the whole world. The guy also points out that 200 years ago, an enormous "adolla burst eruption" caused a giant earthquake that destroyed the entire earth.
