About This Chapter
In this short scene, we learn that Hirondano is on his way back to the cathedral with his lieutenant, who is also a member of the special fire service. The two men are on their way back from the cathedral when they run into the Boar's Head Tavern, where they have stopped to pick up some baloney. Hirondino asks the tavern owner why he is giving them the baloney, and the owner tells him that he is being taken to the scene of a murder and that he should hurry. The captain of the fire service tells him to hurry, and they run off to save the lives of the people in the tavern. The man tells them that they are here to kill him, and he asks them to put a lid over the fire truck so that he can't escape. He tells the captain that he has killed many people, but the judge says he is innocent, so he cannot kill him now. He asks the captain to dispose of him, but he says he will kill him anyway.
