The chapter opens with the mother of the dead boy, Ching-yuan, asking her son's father why he's so upset about her family's treatment of him. He's angry that his son was killed by a member of his family, and he wants to know who killed him. The mother says that she's going to take revenge on the murderer, and she'll kill her entire family if Ching-yu doesn't hand over the murderer to her. She's not going to believe him, she says, because Ching-Yun wouldn't kill anyone. She says that her son told her that white peony drugged him with "fairy's breathe" before he died, and that he lost his mind and had sex all night, and then died of exhaustion. Ching-yun's story is absurd, he says, since fairy's breath is a family technique, and it's also a technique of his own family. He says that he'll leave the house immediately, and asks if his daughter-in-law knows about the incident. He asks her to be honest, and they'll have her back. He also says that Ching-yin isn't helping them, since Ching-Yuan is helping the world, not the family.
