This chapter opens with a conversation between Lin and Mr. Zhengzhou. Lin tells Zhengzhou that he thinks there is a good chance that there is jadeite inside a rock they are cutting. Lin says that Zhengzhou is an idiot, and that he wishes he were as lucky as Zhengzhou, who will be rich. Lin agrees to pay Zhengzhou 200,000 yuan for the rock, and then he will sell the rest of the rock for a profit. He says that he doesn't care how much money he makes, but he still wants to make a good profit. Lin asks Zhengzhou if they will cut more rocks, and Zhengzhou says that they will. Lin is amazed at how easy it is for Zhengzhou to cut three more rocks. They are worth at least 2 million yuan, Lin says. Lin promises to transfer half of this profit to Zhengzhou later.
