This chapter opens with a conversation between Tommo and Enobaruchi. Tommo is worried about his son's involvement in a festival being put on by the Minosami family. He is concerned that the festival will be a disaster. He tells his son that he has kicked him out of his family and that he should stop interfering in his father's affairs. He also tells him that his son has some unusual tastes, and that if word of the festival gets out, it will not be good for the Minosa group. He asks his son to stop his senseless music and come home. He reminds him that he is his son and that being tied to the Minosesami family for appearances is a problem for him. He wants to live his life freely and not to be tied to his father.
