About This Chapter
In this chapter, the narrator tells the reader that he's sorry that his daughter is like this. He tells the story of how his sister brought home a "hot boy friend" who turned out to be a "gay" man. The narrator says that he was surprised when he realized that his sister was bringing back such a hot girl friend. He wonders what her life will be like when she leaves school and starts to go out. He also tells the audience that he used to be his teacher. He used to say that wanting up was to take a "really left on down" . Now, he says, he wants to know how he can live as he pleases without worrying about what other people think of him. He's worried that the people in his band will hate him because they think that he is playing the way they want him to. He says that's why he doesn't want his band members to hate him, because he wants them to like him for who he is instead of for what they think he is. He wants to be honest with himself and tell the truth about his feelings for his daughter. He admits that he once thought he could only love a man, but after meeting his daughter, he grew more and more attracted to her. He feels that he needs to tell her the truth because he loves her the same way he would a man.
