He wonders where everyone is going, and he wonders if the magic lamp is still in the desert, where it can make his wishes come true. The narrator thinks he has fallen asleep, but he wakes up to find that his father is dead. He thinks he is meeting with the ocean, and wonders if they are both dead, or if he can "drift out of his body." He thinks that he can avenge his father's death by reviving his father.
