The scene opens with a letter from a fifth-grader, zi qi, to the school's principal. Unsure of what to do, the boy begs the principal to teach him how to draw. The principal, however, refuses, saying that the boy's art is too important for him to interfere with his schoolwork. Worried that his son's mother is involved in the letter-writing, the principal calls the police, but they tell her that it has not yet been 48 hours. The mother, who has just received a text message from her husband saying that her son has returned home, tries to calm the principal down, but she is unable to do so.
