The next morning, Duan wakes up and tells his son-in-law that he's been in a dream. He's lost half of his "police mechanism" , which is a fancy term for the brain's ability to control its own actions. Duan is worried that his friend is going to die if he doesn't get better soon. He suggests that Duan consult a psychologist, but the professor won't listen to him. He says that the only thing Duan can do is to thank his uncle for taking good care of him all this time, and he'll pay him a visit some day. The professor says that he just heard that the doctor said that he got Duan's Ph.D. from Duan, and that's the guy who's recommended by his professor. The doctor says that if something happens to Duan in real life, the hallucinations will keep multiplying, and the patient will eventually hurt himself.
