About This Chapter
The narrator tells us that jiewu has been taken away by Ming Ma and that the case of the fire is still unsolved. The narrator says that he and his fellow detectives have spent a lot of time on the case, but that they have no say in the matter. He tells the narrator that he used to think he was a cop, but now he thinks he is an old man and a sinner. He asks the fortune teller where the two women went. The fortune teller tells him that they took a train to the provincial central hospital, where they were supposed to get carsicked in his car. He says that the side door to the secret laboratory is the safest door in the building. He also tells the fortuneteller that he learned that Ming Ma noticed him when he was sneaking into her soulless realm, but he thinks that she noticed him back then, so they have probably moved the secret lab away from there. He and the other detectives take the elevator up to the 13th floor, and they find the secret room. They are too late to find out what they found out, but the narrator thinks that it is because women are romantic creatures, and the key to their success is how they respond. He wonders why they didn't just back the car out the day before. He thinks that they are driving him crazy.
