The next morning, jie-bai is worried about the whereabouts of duan. Heisan calls to say that he saw duan the night before, but duan is avoiding everyone. Worried, uncle boyang suggests that duan must be trying to investigate the city in secret. He says that the owner of the city knows duan, and that after duan asked him to get into the city, duan went away to deal with some other problem. He tells hottie that he'll check out the city first thing in the morning. Hottie says that she's never been to the city before, and the view is pretty good. Uncle boyang tells her to go back to her bed, and he promises to have her in his bed by the time she gets home. She apologizes, and says that her father beat her all the time, and she finally had enough. He's a doctor now, so she inherited her mom's position. He scolds her for being a doctor, saying that she is earning her bread and butter by her abilities. He compares her to her mother, who gave up her favorite dancing to become a doctor like her. She gave up on him, he says, because she wanted to be like her mom.
