In this chapter, Ming Ma narrates the story of how Duan tricked him into going to the theater to meet with Director Yin. Duan then hypnotized Ming Ma so that he could kill the director. Ming Ma tells Duan that he was a security guard at the theater when Duan asked him to lock up the doors so that the fire wouldn't spread quickly. The fire spread quickly because the doors were locked, and Ming Ma is worried that Duan will lose control and the theater won't be safe. He also tells the audience that he once saw Ming Ma and the other guards together before the fire, and he was chasing down two thieves.
