The schoolmaster, named Hongfa duan, explains that he has co-operated with the chief for several years and has done something "both illegal and immoral" out of "greed" . Now that his "premonition" has been proven correct, he is determined to "be the scapegoat for everything" if he does not comply. The captain duan from the police station comes to the school to confirm that his father has died of an accidental overdose of sleeping pills. Hongfa's son, Jason, is very sorry for the loss of his father, and the captain instructs him to go to the local police station and claim his father's body. The next day, the family is to bury their father in a strict manner. Jason wonders why the tap hasn't been turned on for seven days, and wonders if he forgot to turn it off when he turned off the tap seven days ago. He also wonders if the tap is still running seven days after his father died.
