About This Chapter
In this short scene, we are introduced to a number of characters who have been affected by the events of the Holocene. The first person we meet is the protagonist, who tells us that he and his family have been living in hiding for the past twenty-four years. He tells his family that he has been unable to leave because he is afraid of the effects of the radiation that has been released from the Sarcophagus. He also tells them that he will not be able to leave the area because the government has ordered an immediate evacuation of the area. The protagonist then tells us about the many people who have lost their lives in the war, including his mother, sister, and brother-in-law.
